TPS for Somalia Extended and Somalia Redesignated for TPS for 18 Months; EADs Automatically Extended Through March 16, 2022

Fecha de Publicación:
News Item Date:

Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas extended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somalia and redesignated Somalia for TPS through March 17, 2023. Current beneficiaries who want to maintain their status must re-register July 22, 2021 through September 20, 2021. Somali nationals and individuals having no nationality who last habitually resided in Somalia may submit an initial registration application under the redesignation of Somalia for TPS and apply for an EAD.

Given the time frames for processing TPS re-registration applications, USCIS has automatically extended the validity of certain Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) issued under the TPS designation for Somalia through March 16, 2022.

Creating an E-Verify Case

Once a new employee has completed Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, create a case in E-Verify for this employee. Enter the EAD document number you entered on Form I-9, as well as the automatically extended date of March 16, 2022. You must reverify these employees on Form I-9 before they start work on March 17, 2022.

Find more details about this extension on the TPS Somalia page and instructions for completing Form I-9 on the I-9 Central TPS page.
