E-Verify uses Login.gov as its secure sign-in provider to enhance account protection. Browser users must sign in through Login.gov using an email, password, and multifactor authentication (MFA), also known as two-factor authentication, to access all verification applications and systems, including E-Verify, and E-Verify+.
MFA adds an extra layer of security, helping safeguard your private and sensitive information from hackers and password compromises. When setting up your Login.gov account, you will choose an authentication method—such as an authenticator app—on a device only you control. Each time you sign in, you'll use this method to enter a verification code, ensuring secure access.
With a single Login.gov account, you can securely access multiple government websites and manage your verification needs online.

E-Verify does not manage your Login.gov account. Login.gov offers guidance on resetting a password within the Login.gov Help Center’s Forgot your Password page. For additional assistance with your Login.gov password you can contact Login.gov support available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. E-Verify Customer Support cannot assist with password resets on Login.gov accounts.
E-Verify does not manage your Login.gov account. Login.gov assists with authentication method issues within the Login.gov Help Center’s Issues with authentication methods page. After reviewing these options, if you still cannot sign in with your only authentication method, you will have to delete your Login.gov account and create a new account. After deleting a Login.gov account, you must wait 24 hours before creating a Login.gov account with the same email address.
Login.gov cannot unlock your account for you or sign in on your behalf. Please note deleting your Login.gov account will block your access to E-Verify. We strongly recommend establishing at least two authentication methods to avoid being locked out of your Login.gov account.

Activating your new E-Verify User Account
You should have received an email with all the instructions you need to activate your new E-Verify Account. The link in the email will take you to E-Verify’s login page with Login.gov to sign in or create a Login.gov account.
- If you have a Login.gov account, sign in using your associated email address and password.
- If you do not have a Login.gov account, select Create an Account and follow the prompts in Login.gov to set up your account.
Use an email address that you control. You cannot use an email shared with someone else.
When using a work email, if you lose access to that email (for example, because you change jobs) this will make it difficult to recover your Login.gov account.
Deleting your Login.gov account will block your access to E-Verify. You can add multiple email addresses to your Login.gov account and then choose which email address to use for your E-Verify profile.
No. Each user must have their own Login.gov account with a unique email address. Shared accounts are not allowed.
Login.gov offers multiple multifactor authentication (MFA) methods. To protect your account, we strongly recommend adding at least two authentication methods. This ensures you have a backup if you lose access to your primary method (for example, losing your phone).
Choose the most secure methods that you can reliably use. If you lose access to all MFA methods, you’ll need to create a new account.
Adding multiple authentication methods helps:
- Prevent lockouts if you lose access to your primary method (for example, lost phone).
- Enhance security by providing backup options like a security key or authentication app.
Manage or add methods in your Login.gov account under “Your authentication methods.” More information is available on the Login.gov Add or Change Your Authentication Method page.
